Bailey Bowers - Sideways Self-Portrait

Idiosyncratic Portraits of Bailey Bowers

I think I may want to do a series of idiosyncratic portraits. Most pics and portraits I see of people seem so stale and boring. Even just the orientation of a picture can add a different feel, convey a different emotion. What are some of your favorite poses or approaches to portrait photography?

Anytime is Tea Time

At the most recent assemblage for Tea Addicts Anonymous (TAA)–population of three: Amy, Lexi, myself– we realized we now have more varieties of tea than there are days of the week. We decided it would be a good idea to identify each tea’s specific properties and purposes so as to avoid some tea-related bender resulting in sleepless […]

A Most Beautiful Place

As another summer comes to a close, I’m reliving one of my favorite summertime trips, to Colorful Colorado. Colorado has two sides: in wintertime, there’s the “I love Colorado because it’s pretty and I’m swishing down powdery slopes, but I hate Colorado because my skin is cracking and I’ve yet to achieve homeostasis.” The other side […]

Artist Spotlight: Beth Hoeckel

I know I’m dealing with an incredible artist when I experience one of three reactions:  frustration due to sheer perplexity, elation for no apparent reason, or (worst/best of all) I shed actual tears. Beth Hoeckel has been one of few artists to produce some combination of all three of these. Her unique perspective and imagination show […]

Bailey Bowers Photo

It’s me! ~ ~ ~ ¡Soy yo!  🙂 Get to know me through my writing and photography. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;” “The […]

The core cast of Arrested Development

Arrested — You Won’t BELIEVE This!

The core cast of Arrested Development
If I was stranded on a desert isle, and I rescued a genie from a lamp to be rewarded with the standard three wishes, my very first wish would be for infinite seasons of Arrested Development.
Ok, that’s a lie. I’d wish to be home safe and for a winning Powerball ticket. But then? Infinite seasons of Arrested Development! I mean, c’mon. Six Emmys. One Golden Globe. Sufficient fan demand to bring it back from cancellation on Fox for a fourth and now fifth season on Netflix.
IGN called it the funniest show of all time, and with good reason. It’s basically the best thing since chocolate.
Check out the supporting cast. All stars, all the time. Liza Minnelli, Henry Winkler, Ben Stiller, Jane Lynch, Amy Poehler, Charlize Theron…and those are the folks playing secondary characters. The show is just to weird and wonderful for even big names to resist.

Who Can Afford Napa? Check Out Charlottesville

I would love to take a long, lazy tour around Napa Valley. Hot air ballons. Fine dining. Endless vineyards. Biiiiiiiig price tags. You know what’s closer to home? Virginia. And Charlottesville. And all the goodness of Napa at a fraction of the price. Obviously, Monticello is amazing; and to their credit, they don’t shy away […]

Melton Memorial Observatory

I suppose every place has its hidden treasures. College campuses are no exception. There are lots of great spots at the University of South Carolina to people watch or study or grab a bite, but one out-of-the-way location is the Melton Memorial Observatory. Dating to 1928, the building has an unassuming facade and the characteristic […]

Welcome

They say that travel is broadening. They’re right. I’ve been fortunate to travel both in the United States and Europe, and there’s nothing like the pleasure of exploring new places and cultures. With that in mind, and as an inaugural post to this blog, a little song seemed appropriate. So here is the Discovery Channel […]
